Capsule Geology

The Aries occurrence is located on a north-trending ridge, south of the Swannell River and approximately 12 kilometres north-northeast of Aiken Lake.

Regionally, the area is underlain by volcaniclastic rocks of the Permian Lay Range Assemblage, fine clastic sedimentary rocks of the Upper Devonian to Permian Big Creek Group and ultramafic rocks of the Lower Jurassic Polaris Ultramafic Complex.

Locally, at the Aries zone very fine-grained sulphides occur in a pyroxenite and an olivine pyroxenite. On a ridge to the southeast of the Aries zone lies the Virgo zone, which consists of very fine-grained chalcopyrite in a pyroxenite.

Samples from the Aries and Virgo zones are reported to have yielded up to 0.136 and 0.130 per cent copper, 0.178 and 0.018 gram per tonne platinum with 0.099 and 0.021 gram per tonne palladium, respectively (Assessment report 35680).

Work History

The area has been historically explored in conjunction with the nearby HB (MINFILE 094C 168) occurrence and a complete regional exploration history can be found there.

In 2007, 2014 and 2015, U. Mowat completed programs of prospecting and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the area as the Star property.
